Technical Scouting Placement (Queens Park Rangers FC) & MSc Applied Sport Performance Analysis

Loughborough University and QPR FC are committed to the development of aspiring coaches and practitioners through elite sport in the UK. We currently have an exciting opportunity for an aspiring technical scout to develop their expertise via a combination of high-quality teaching on our MSc Applied Sport Performance Analysis course, and through applied experience with Queens Park Rangers FC, working remotely for the most part with opportunities to periodically work from the QPR Training Ground.

Students on our new MSc course accumulate over 460 hours experience in applied practice. The candidate will be supported with a £5,000 stipend and have an opportunity to further their development with mentorship and support from staff working in elite sport and a dedicated placement tutor. During the placement, there is an opportunity to build a portfolio of practical expertise while learning how to operate in a modern inter-disciplinary team, enhancing your employability within the performance analysis field.

What would I be doing?

· Taking ownership of an assigned position to identify and evaluate playing talent for the club.

· Reviewing and analysing players’ performances in line with our team-specific position profiles.

· Working closely with your paired senior scout to produce shortlists of targets in your assigned position.

· Producing informative and accurate scouting reports in line with the club’s player scouting strategy.

· Producing informative and accurate verbal summaries on key players in line with your own opinions.

· Attending live games for the club as needed if/when the club feel this is appropriate.

· Contributing to online and in-person meetings around the club’s player scouting and recruitment strategy.

What is Loughborough University and QPR looking for?

· Previous relevant experience within performance analysis and/or technical scouting.

· Highly numerate with strong technical and IT skills.

· Experience in the use of performance analysis software(s) and related video production and analysis tools to feedback actionable insights.

· Energy and enthusiasm. Someone who enjoys interacting with different groups of people and enjoys the challenge the role brings and is committed to achieving personal and team objectives

· A pro-active individual – understands the needs of the team to be successful and is forthcoming with ideas and assistance.

· Highly organised, with the ability to work under pressure, and manage the combination of academic and professional work, and deliver to the highest standard consistently.

· Eager to develop and progress both technically and in the softer skills of being an analyst and scout, with a strong awareness of the confidentiality working within a professional football demands.

· Due to the nature of the role, you may need to be available to provide support during evenings and weekends.
