Swansea City AFC, in partnership with Cardiff Metropolitan University, is offering an internship opportunity which aims to provide hands-on industry experience to students pursuing their MSc Professional Practice (Sport Performance Analysis).

 

This is an exciting and unique opportunity which will allow the student to apply their academic knowledge within an elite performance environment.

 

The successful candidate will join the First Team Recruitment Department, reporting to the Lead Technical Scout and will be predominantly based at the First Team Training Facility in Swansea. 

 

They will work closely with the Technical Scouting team, supporting the department to help identify & recruit players that align with the club’s identity & goals.

 

DURATION:

2025-2026 season (August – May).

 

TIME:             

Full-time with flexibility and time provided for studies. Hours may include evenings, weekends and public holidays but will largely be aligned to a more traditional working week pattern.

                                                          

LOCATION:

Swansea City AFC Training Facility (SA2). The student will also have flexibility to regularly work from home.

 

FEES:             

Swansea City AFC will directly cover the full cost of tuition fees.

TASKS AND LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES           

 

·        Be responsible for the video scouting provision of specific leagues to identify potential targets for the 1st team

·        File reports on club database with an understanding of the identity of the club & profile of a Swansea City player

·        Work with the data team to support & improve talent ID processes

·        Maintain & develop scouting databases to ensure processes remain consistent & efficiency is at a maximum

·        Support with the building of video content on target players for presentation to coaching staff & key stakeholders

·        Work closely with the Recruitment Analyst to help build dossiers and presentations on target players

·        Potential opportunities for live scouting experience

·        Undertake ad-hoc project work & other work outside those responsibilities listed as required

PERSON SPECIFICATION

 

·        This is an internship opportunity for individuals enrolled onto the MSc in Sports Performance Analysis at Cardiff Metropolitan University only

·        Show initiative and be proactive in your work

·        Be adaptable & agile to the requirements of a 1st Team Recruitment department, especially during transfer windows

·        Be solutions oriented to resolve issues as they arise & improve processes

·        Experience of working in pressurised situations and to deadlines

·        Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

·        Excellent written and IT skills

·        Highly organised and able to manage multiple tasks

·        Think ahead with a “can do” attitude

·        Work well in a cognitively diverse performance department
