Head of Scouting
BACKGROUND
AFC Fylde is a professional football club based in Wesham in the Borough of Fylde, Lancashire. We operate from the state-of-the-art Mill Farm Sports Village with ambitions for growth and success across all levels. We are committed to developing our infrastructure and aspire to compete in the highest divisions of football.
ROLE SUMMARY
The Head of Scouting has the responsibility for identifying and attracting players as defined by our DNA, ensuring the players recruited match the club’s profiling requirements. In this respect, the HOS will have full responsibility for implementing the player acquisition strategy at the football club. This will require both access to the ground truth in network of football scouts and the collation of this data from the analytical team.
The HOS will work closely with the academy and first team, but report directly into the Director of Football. They will have responsibility to ensure that the club’s strategic vision and purpose are understood by everyone they come in contact with.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build and lead a team of scouts responsible for identifying and recruiting talent across all levels.
- Advise players using data analysis and traditional scouting methods to acquire a filter of statistical outputs in player profiling.
- Analyse players that align with club strategy and our budget.
- Maintain a robust and up-to-date scouting database.
- Develop strong relationships with local, national and international contacts.
- Support the use of performance and potential prediction models to support the recruitment process and decision-making process.
- Work with the DOF and HOR to monitor player development internally.
- Proactively monitor emerging talent from the local area, specifically in the U23s and top academies.
- Support the Director of Football as needed.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
- An excellent working knowledge of player ID at the 19s-and-below level and adult opportunities for Men's Football.
- Experience working within a team in a football environment.
- Technical background within professional football with a track record of identifying players.
- Ability to understand and translate football knowledge and understanding into effective Talent ID.
- Ability to use and embrace the latest technology to support the talent identification and selection process.
- Experience working with football tracking sites and performance datasets.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
- Previous experience working as a Head Scout in Men’s Football.
- An extensive network/database of contacts both regionally and internationally.
