First Team Analyst
Overview
Southend United FC is seeking a dynamic and skilled First Team Analyst to support first-team performance, opposition analysis, and player recruitment. The successful candidate will play a central role in transforming video, data, and tactical insight into actionable information that supports coaching processes, match preparation, player development, and strategic recruitment.
This is a hands-on position within a fast-paced football environment, requiring strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver high-quality analysis under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
Performance & Match Analysis
- Produce analytical insights and reports for first-team staff and players.
- Work closely with the Head Coach and staff on all analysis-related processes.
- Capture, code, and analyse training sessions to support coaching objectives.
- Lead opposition analysis, providing pre-match reports and video clips.
- Attend all home and away fixtures to deliver live match analysis and ensure full capture and coding.
- Conduct post-match reviews to support debrief sessions.
- Complete additional tasks as required by the coaching staff.
Recruitment Analysis
- Contribute to scouting reports using platforms such as Wyscout, Impect, and StatsBomb.
- Benchmark potential signings through video, data, and tactical fit assessments.
- Collaborate with the Head of Football, Head Coach, and recruitment team to profile player targets.
Required Skills & Technology
- Proficiency in Mac and PC systems.
- Experience with Hudl Sportscode, Wyscout, Impect, StatsBomb, and related tools.
- Strong presentation skills using Keynote or PowerPoint.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
- Proven experience working in a first-team football environment.
- Strong tactical understanding and ability to apply insights practically.
- Advanced knowledge of video analysis workflows and coding processes.
- Experience with the Hudl suite and at least one major data provider (StatsBomb, Impect, Opta).
- Ability to produce high-quality written and visual reports under tight deadlines.
- BSc in Sports Performance Analysis (or equivalent).
Desirable
- MSc in Sports Performance Analysis (or equivalent).
- Experience presenting to players and senior coaches.
- Background in football analytics or performance analysis.
- Familiarity with data science tools.
