10 Analysis Tweets You Might Have Missed

Below is a round-up of some of the latest and greatest tweets from this week. I don’t go into too much detail here but I encourage you to check them all out in your own time.

1. Twinterview with Darren Burgess

I linked to this during the week but the Journal of Sports Sciences conduct these interviews of Twitter. They are fast and straight to the point but that’s why I like them.  Here is a hand place to read the interview in full.  http://storify.com/thevideoanalyst/journal-of-sports-sciences-twinterview

2. A New Perspective on Batting Averages in Cricket

A great article by Omar over on 5 added minutes. As a former (village cricketer) and poor batsmen, averages always seemed unfair to me. Cricket seems ripe for a real Moneyball moment and a whole raft of new metrics. Here Omar looks at a batting averages from a different perspective and highlight some important points. http://5addedminutes.com/2013/11/09/england-batsmen-averages/

omar-cricket3. Everton: how the blues made good

This article goes back to May but is a good look at Everton and how they operated under Moyes. http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/2/2fa7ef1e-b2c0-11e2-8540-00144feabdc0.html

4. Clive Woodward’s take on being too analytical

An interesting look at the over-reliance on sports science and analysis, especially on game day. Woodward is a big advocate for sports science but he makes a lot of sense in this article about its use. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/article-2486668/England-improve-Australia-performance–Sir-Clive-Woodward.html

5. Steve Tashjian, Senior Fitness Coach at Everton

No link here but these two great quotes came from Steve when he was speaking at a conference this week.

6. Changing Face of Football

A great article from Richard Whittall over on the 21st Club Blog. The 21st Club is a new company founded by Blake Wooster (Former Prozone) and Ramus Ankersen. I’m betting plenty of their articles will appear on these lists over the next few months.  http://www.21stclub.com/blog/2013/118/future-directions-intro

7. Shooting on target: Skill or Luck?

Another really insightful piece from James Grayson looking at if shooting on target is more about skill than luck. You should really check this out. http://jameswgrayson.wordpress.com/2013/11/07/how-repeatable-are-shots-on-target/

8. How data could predict rugby injuries

A look at how big data is being used to help predict rugby injuries. Despite all the claims on injury analytics I still think we are some way off this, but a good article none the less. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-24836161

9. Kirk Goldsberry; Good Players in Bad Players

If you’ve never heard of Kirk Goldsberry you really should check him out. As seems to be common in the US Kirk didn’t enter the world of analytics through the sports ladder and that no doubt gives him a fresh perspective. This article is about basketball but can be applied to most sports. http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/81633/courtvision-the-revenge-of-monta-ellis

10. Every presentation worth doing has just one purpose

The truly brilliant Seth Godin talks about presentations and although he is talking from a business perspective his advice applies to coaches and analysts alike.  http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2013/11/every-presentation-worth-doing-has-just-one-purpose.html
